Documentation requirements can feel overwhelming for first-time entrepreneurs, but having a clear checklist upfront makes the process significantly smoother. Here’s what you’ll typically need to prepare.
Personal Documents for Shareholders and Managers
At minimum, expect to provide passport copies (valid for at least six months), passport-sized photographs, and, for UAE residents, a copy of your current visa or Emirates ID.
Some free zones and business activities may also request a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your current sponsor if you’re already employed in the UAE on someone else’s visa.
Business-Related Documents
You’ll need to submit a proposed trade name (with alternatives in case your first choice is unavailable), a clear description of your intended business activity, and a business plan for certain license categories or activities.
If you’re forming a company with multiple shareholders, a draft Memorandum of Association outlining ownership percentages and management structure will also be required.
Additional Documents for Corporate Shareholders
If your new UAE company will be owned by an existing overseas company rather than an individual, you’ll need that parent company’s trade license, Certificate of Incorporation, and a board resolution authorizing the UAE investment — often requiring notarization and attestation.
These documents typically need to be attested by the UAE embassy in the country of origin and then legalized by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Documents for Visa Processing
Once your license is issued, visa applications require additional documents including a medical fitness test, Emirates ID application, and (for family sponsorship) marriage or birth certificates, attested appropriately.
Keeping digital and physical copies of all these documents organized from the start avoids delays later in the visa stamping process.
Preparation is everything when it comes to UAE company formation — having your documents ready and properly attested before you begin can shave weeks off your setup timeline.
